HERNDON, Va. – Among the disciplines of martial arts taught at Fairfax Jiu-Jitsu is the Brazilian jiu-jitsu program currently led by head instructors and Yamasaki jiu-jitsu black belts David “The Rock” Jacobs and Mark Jones.

David Jacobs is a decorated grappler with veteran experience in pro grappling divisions of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and submission wrestling. As a former collegiate wrestler, he is able to blend wrestling techniques with traditional BJJ styles to help his students learn gi and no-gi techniques. As part owner of Fairfax Jiu-Jitsu, he shares his responsibilities in guiding the program with his business partners Mark Jones and Sam Kim.

David 'The Rock' Jacobs is known for his competitive spirit in tournaments.

Mark Jones is head of the children’s martial arts program and works with kids for a living as a professional in the field of juvenile corrections. Jones leverages his experience in working with kids to help children learn martial arts and grow as people. He often spends time on the weekends sharing his knowledge by teaching extra classes.

Mark Jones teaches children's classes with assistant instructors to help monitor the kids.

Recently, a new addition was made to the coaching staff at Fairfax Jiu-Jitsu. BJJ stalwart Abmar Barbosa started teaching at the academy and continues to train and compete full time. He received his black belt for Robert Drysdale and Felipe Vidal in 2008. The BJJ black belt recently won the Abu Dhabi Trials in Jersey City and earned a bid to compete in the next Abu Dhabi World Championships.

Abmar Barbosa was a purple belt when he became friends with Fernando Yamasaki.

Training at the academy offers opportunities to train with a highly knowledgable staff of instructors. Each coach provides their own different perspective on training.
